Last October 10, a seminar (Career Insight: PR and Digital Media Jobs for Communication Graduates) that provided Communication students of Angeles University Foundation some new insights about what other jobs that the course has to offer. The speakers from different fields discussed their experiences that provided the students some ideas that are advantageous in their future.

Nico Reyes, a Public Relation professional, discussed that there is more to life than landing a job at a TV station -- in which the other speakers agreed. It may have broke the dreams of those wanting to work in this field but listening to his – and also the other’s story about how hard it is, how unhealthy environment there has and how prevalent the crab mentality is, may altered some of the student’s decision.

Cherry Muncal, a Senior Digital and Creative Officer, made communication students want to have her job. Hearing feedbacks like “Job Goals” and “Dream job!” from those who’ve listen inspired comm students to enhance their skills in communication, designing and in team leading. Who wouldn’t want the perks she has, to travel for free and work with people whom you treat as a family right?

But of course, this people didn’t just sat down and let magic do the work for them. They worked and will work hard, they did more than what they’re asked to, they do things that make them learn more, they excel and because of those, they are where they want them to be.
“History would tell us that being successful is not brought about by only brilliance, but with persistent and desire.”
One student asked about how to become successful in these fields, it is admirable how Jeremy Cortez, a senior training specialist, answered this question. He said that every person has his own definition of success, it may be the amount of money you have/earn or the amount of work you’ve done but success to him is not about those things, it is about how happy and contented he is in doing his job.

It is sad how other students didn’t pay attention to what the speakers shared. Some of the feedbacks are complains about how long the program was, how boring the seminar is. But for those who’ve listened, they now have the advantage over those who did not and it is true because the speakers gave enough explanations, insights, perks and lessons and now it is up us, Communication students of AUF, to use it.

May those who complained and rant about how busy they are to attend this event realize how important this kinds of seminars are. Few years from now, if you just applied what you learned from this, those who didn’t listen will be watching you from below because today, working hard is just not enough. You now have to work intelligently hard.
