The Happiest Happy Meal Toys Ever
By Faye Galvan
Every
single child who has been to Mcdonald’s has one thing on his mind: THE HAPPY
MEAL. For those who don’t know what a Happy Meal is (highly unlikely, but if
you do NOT know what it is, then you’ve lost a part of your childhood), it is
like the normal meal adults buy, but made even better because it comes with a free
limited edition toy every month!
Here are
some of the toys that made kids (and, well, some grown ups too) happy with
their happy meals.
PS: In no particular order. All of them are
awesome!
- 101 Dalmatians (1991)Kids today may not remember Perdita and Pongo and the rest of their clan, but 90’s kids sure had a lot of fun collecting 101 Dalmatians figures. Collecting all 101 of them made you feel like Cruella De Ville (Ha-ha!) and thus, you had bragging rights because you got all the Dalmatian puppies... at least as toy figures.
- Snoopy (1998-1999)
Another collectible is the Snoopy’s World Tour Happy Meal Set. It was released by set and what made it popular with kids is that; 1. It’s Snoopy, the world’s famous beagle; 2. It’s Snoopy, and he is wearing the national attire of every country he “has been” to and 3. HOW COULD YOU NOT SQUEAL TO SEE SNOOPY WEARING A COSTUME WE ONLY SEE IN BENGUET OR BAGUIO!? Though the figure doesn’t do much (he just turns his head left and right, and for some figures, the hat could be removed), it does a pretty good job in making kids smile.
- Sega Mini games (2003)
Back when the Internet connection was still as slow as a turtle (somehow it still is, but dial-up connection was the thing back then and very slow connection was totally forgivable) and consoles were making waves, McDonald’s made a totally awesome decision of giving out Sega mini video games with their Happy Meals! And boy, it was cool. It had racing games where Sonic the Hedgehog had to finish the race without crashing into other cars, and that Goin’ Bananas game where you catch falling bananas. This Happy Meal toy set should have a gallery of its own for it was gold!
- Minions (2013, 2015)
These guys have been stirring commotion among children to young professionals since their debut in Despicable Me 1, but people went gaga over minions in 2013 when the viral video of four minions singing “Banana” for a promotional video of the Despicable Me sequel made its rounds all over the Internet. It was a no-brainer that people would love this toy line. In fact, in 2013, there was a shortage in the Minion happy meal toys and having one made the Instagram-happy people victorious. In the launching of their own movie this year, the demand had been too much that people had to buy reservation tickets in advance so that they won’t run out of minion toys! Talk about going bananas over little minions singing about bananas!
- Magic School Bus Booklets (2015)
Though not as phenomenal as the other toys mentioned, we have to commend McDonald’s for making this part of the current Happy Meal. It is refreshing to know that fast food chains still look for ways to make learning as fun as playing. The set has different books about children learning various topics of Science in an exciting way. It may not have been as popular as the Minions series, but giving out books as part of Happy Meals is a great way of showing children (and parents as well) that learning is an enjoyable process and will never go out of style.
Don’t you
just love Happy Meals? They just make you so... happy!
